So, every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas I get into a baking mood. Each holiday I make Apple Pies from scratch (with the exception of the crust). Below you will find my pie recipe. If you try it, please let me know how it turns out for you.
Ingredients
2 TBS Lemon Juice
3/4 C White Sugar
1/4 C Brown Sugar
1/4 C Flour
1 TSP Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
8-10 Assorted Apples
1 Pk (2 in a pk) Pillsbury Pie Crust
3 squares of stick butter (about 1 TBS each)
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees (degrees will vary depending on your oven).
In a medium bowl, mix the following ingredients: White Sugar, Brown Sugar, Flour, Cinnamon, and Nutmeg. Make sure the ingredients are well mixed thouroughly.
In a medium to large baking dish, add 2 TBS of Lemon Juice and spread evenly across the bottom of the dish.
Peel, cut, and remove any seeds from the apples. I suggest cutting the apples in to small chunks. As you finish each apple place the chunks into the baking dish with the lemon juice to deter browning of the apples. If the apples start to brown add more lemon juice.
Add the ingredient mix to the apples. Mix the apples and the ingredients thouroughly and make sure the apples are evenly coated with the mixture.
Place the first pie crust into the pie baking dish so that it covers the bottom of the dish and up the sides. Then, add the apple mix into the pie and make sure it's spread pretty evenly.
Add the three squares of butter just right on top of the pie mix in three different places evenly spread out.
Place the second pie crust on top of the ingredients. Run your fingers under water and rub the top of the bottom crust and the bottom of the top crust with your fingers to ensure that the top and bottom crusts seal. Then grab a knife and cut all around the edge of the pie dish to remove excess crust.
Using your thumb and index finger, pinch the crust at the outter edge all the way around the pie to give it a wavy look and feel. Use a knife to cut a slit in the center of the pie for ventilation.
Baking Instructions
Bake the pie at 450 degrees for 20 minutes.
Reduce heat to 375 degrees and bake the pie for an additional 40 minutes.
When the pie is done, let it cool.
Top with whip cream (optional).
